I wheel my luggage trolley towards the exist Maharana Pratap Airport, Udaipur. I look around and see people everywhere. Dramatically, I take a deep breath in only to burst in fit of cough. I take a sip of water from the plastic bottle I had brought after landing.
That’s the worst habit of mine, Impulse purchase. I have load shit of luggage. Undeniably, coming home after like forever means a lot of gifts for the family, and I had enough for my rather huge one.
I have never been to India, though my whole family including my parents and brothers live here. Apparently when I was born my parents got thousands of threats relating me. We are the Royal family of Rajasthan so our family does have a lot of enemies. So, my family thought it was good idea to send me to Russia as they had connection with Royals of Russia. I mean I am not complaining life in Russia is just wonderful. But I do miss my family a lot.
After I’d landed in Udaipur, I had an irresistible urge to spend Indian Rupees. So, I brought water bottle. I scrounged for change but found none. Out of desperation, I handed him a two-thousand rupee note only to be looked at like I’m stupid. Which no doubt I am, I agree. Then I ended up buying dozens of doughnuts, with water bottle and then cashier magically took out the change. He even had audacity to give me a smile.
“Lavanya” I hear a voice and I look around trying to find my elder brother, Aditya.
When I don’t find anyone, I release a huff of frustration and just stand at my place waiting for my brother to come to me himself. I feel a tap on my shoulder and I feel his dominating presence even before I turn. Smiling ear to ear I turn towards him only to find thousands of body guards behind him and he standing in the middle with a cold face but I can see his eyes softening when our eyes meet.
“Bhaiiii” I squeal in excitement as I throw my arms around his neck.
He doesn’t say anything or smile he just wraps his arms around me. “Well, your wish has been granted.” He presses a quick kiss into my hair. I pull away with a smile, holding back comment on his mushiness.
He looks at the box of doughnuts on the trolley and then at me with disapproving narrowed eyes. I pass him a sheepish smile and raise my shoulder slightly.
He takes over the trolley, shaking his head in disbelief. One of the bodyguards take over the luggage trolley. “Looks like you built some muscles.” I comment, poking his biceps.
He shrugs nonchalantly, but I don’t miss the hint of smug grin on his face. “I always had.” He says trying to sound humble but lacking and failing.
We reach to our car and the driver loads the luggage and the bodyguards goes to the other car. Me and bhai settles down on the back and the car starts. I look at him with smile, “So when am I meeting your fiancé?” I ask excitedly and he just looks away with sad look.
“Don’t tell me you’re not introducing us before wedding.” I say in a disappointed voice.
“Wedding is in two days Lavi.” He states like it means anything.
“So? You will marry someone I haven’t even met? Do I mean nothing to you guys?” I try to control my emotions that are heightened as soon as I have landed in India. I feel so left out by my family. No one asks me if I want to be with them or away from them, they just pass an order and I have to follow. I am tired of being their obedient child.
“You know this is not true Lavi.” He states with a stern voice. And this happens everytime. Everytime I try to convey my emotion they just shut me up with their stern voice but today I was feeling rebel.
“No bhai, it is true. You all stay together and like a happy family and I have been thrown out of India just by my own. And don’t call me Lavi my name is Lilith so please call me that.” I say in a firm voice and his jaw clenches.
“You’ll always be my Lavi, no matter what happens. And you know it’s for your safety that you stay in Russia.” He argues.
“If you guys can’t even protect me than what’s the use of being Royal? Why the hell everyone says we are the most powerful family if you can’t even protect your only sister?” I say frustratedly and tears starts to spill from my eyes before the car stops and bhai immediately gets out of the car slamming the door shut and I just stay there numb.
I don’t know why I had this outburst but I just can’t help it. I just have a feeling that this trip is gonna be way more interesting than I can even imagine. It’s just one week. Let’s spend one week happily here then I’ll get back to my comfort zone i.e. Russia and I’ll have my life back.
I give myself a pep talk before wiping my tears and getting out of the car and gazing towards our palace. Did I say anything wrong? I mean anywhere I look there are men with guns trying to protect us, but they can’t protect me? I shake my head and remove all the negative thoughts I am having as the driver gives me my luggage and I drag my trolley inside.
As soon as I enter, I am attacked by a long hug from my younger brother. Yup I have two brothers a older one who is mean arrogant and cold like you have seen before and then my younger brother, Kanishk, he is cute, fun loving and very much extrovert. He is 19 now but still he cares for me like I am the little one.
“DIIIIIIIIII I MISSED YOU A LOT” He screams near my ear in excitement and I giggle tapping his back.
“I MISSED YOU TOO KANI” I try to match his excitement and my eyes wonder around and I see my whole family looking at us adoringly, even Adi bhai too. His eyes gives a look of longingness and I know life has been unfair to him. Burdening him with responsibilities he didn’t have any choice but take.
But am I wrong to be wanted to stay with my family?
Kanishk detaches himself from me and then dad and mom hug me getting emotional.
After the reunion and the emotional drama mumma shows me my room, well everything is temporary so I don’t even know if I should be calling this room as mine or not. I take out some comfy clothes and get changed taking my phone out and video calling my best friend.
“Hey bitch! Finally found some time for me?” She answers in third ring.
“I was on flight Lia” I say in duh tone.
“Whatever! How’s India? When are you coming back?”
“I just got here Lia!! And yes, it’s good. Everything is different though. I don’t know it’s just weird.” I shrug settling on the bed. Though it’s not as comfy as my room in Russia but nevermind.
“Well, you can try different men though! I have heard men of India are damn hot!!” She says.
“No! Indian men are just not my type! Hey are too arrogant and bossy than they have to.” I immediately reject her suggestions.
“Oh please, look who’s saying! The girl who love rude arrogant guys!!” She taunts.
“Those are fictional men Lia! They don’t exist in real life.”
“Whatever! Just think about it it’s a nice try”
“Gotta, go I need to go for dinner downstairs.” I try to get out of the conversation before she starts about how I need to start interacting with guys and have a good sex life. I mean I do want that but my imagination is far worse than anyone can imagine. So, it’s not easy for any guy to fulfill my needs. And Indian guys are definately not the ones
A knock on my door catches my attention and I mutter a quick come in. Kanishk enters the room with wide grin.
“You know what? I finally convinced bhai for his bachelorette party” He jumps on my bed excitedly.
I giggle, “Wasn’t that was already planned?” I ask.
“Oh yea the party was planned but you know I always wanted to go to the club ‘NOISE’!! That’s the most elite club of India!” He mushes.
“A club is a club no?” I ask confused as to what’s so special about that place.
“No Lavi, that club is owned by Mafia!! Three mafia best friends!! The vibe, the aura, the crowd everything about that club is extraordinary!” He says.
“Mafia?” I give him a weird look. I mean mafia is a fictional thing not a real one!
“Yes Lavi!! And trust me you don’t ever want to be seen by them.
